Blog Train: If I were a time traveller...

"With endless time, nothing is special. With no loss or sacrifice, we can’t appreciate what we have”- Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper

The Time Keeper is one of my favourite books because it talks about time, how each of us are so controlled by time, looking for more time when we are running out of it, and killing it when we have too much time in our hands.

In this book, Dor was given the power to control time. He can stop time, he can move time ahead.. you get the gist. And sometimes, with movies like Back To The Future and books like The Time Traveler's Wife, I wonder if I have the ability to time travel, when will I go? How far back will I travel?

And after a long and careful thought, I think I will travel to exactly 3 different days:

Aug 22, 1985, the day my mother was going to give birth to me. I knew exactly where I was born, so when I am back in 1985, I would head down to the very hospital where I will soon appear, so that I will be the mysterious woman who appeared out of nowhere to cheer her on, and then disappear shortly after.

I will look at the 27-year-old her, wincing in pain as her contractions kick in. My dad will probably be telling her all sorts of comfort words, but I'll be there, out of nowhere, holding her hand and telling her that everything is gonna be okay.

I'll tell her that she would not only have one daughter, but she will have three.. And the very contraction she was feeling, is the beginning of a really wonderful journey ahead.

I would also like to travel forward in time to Aug 22, 2050. I will be 65 years old then, what has life laid out for me? How will 38-year-old Dylan look like? What is he doing? How many children do I have?

How is my 36-yr-old Alexis? Still my happy baby?

Did all my kids marry well? Is... My other half still with me as I blew my 65th birthday cake?

The last day I will travel to, is Sept 26, 2008. It was the day Nian and I met - one of the most magical nights of my life & i would certainly want to re-live that moment again when he shouted into me ear, "I really like you!"

And I reply with a "Me too!" as we look at each other and gave the biggest smile we had for a long time. :)

If YOU are a time traveller, when will you travel to?

Ashlyn shares her walk of faith, love and joy as a full time working mummy to 1. Many years back, she prayed for a child but God didn't send her one immediately. Instead, he waited and blessed her with a daughter at the perfect timing. He continued to be her center of life, guide and lead her new journey. She writes about her life, faith, parenting, child, travel and crafting "adventures" - yes, many ups & downs! More over at
