Tackling Post-Natal Hair Problems at Luxe Scalp Specialist

Monday, February 16, 2015

It has been 5 months since I gave birth to Alexis. While pregnancy is wonderful for me because I get slimmer after every baby I popped (lol), it is also terrible for me. Apart from the 10-month long morning sickness I get, I also have very serious post-natal hair loss and dandruff.

When I had Dylan, I didn't have the chance to explore scalp specialists, so I had to suffer quietly and bear with the ridiculous amount of hair I drop every single day, and scratch till my scalp hurts from the persistent dandruff that wouldn't go off until almost a year later. It was a difficult time for me, and rather embarrassing at times because I would have 'snowflakes' on my shoulders whenever I wear something dark.

Thankfully this time, I had the chance to visit Luxe Scalp Specialist and try out their Korean Ginseng Scalp & Hair Strengthening Treatment for my postnatal hair problems.

I know that many of us usually experience some form of hair troubles, be it hair loss, dandruff, overly dry hair, oily scalp or even premature greying but most of us take these problems very lightly and attempt to solve them with temporary methods, such as anti-dandruff shampoo, constantly dyeing the white roots black etc.

Often, many of us only seek treatment when it is too late. I always encourage my friends to go for a scalp check-up every now and then even though these problems may be pretty mediocre. In Luxe Scalp Specialist, I like it that all of the consultants and therapists are very professional and were able to give me a good insight on my scalp health.

To tailor the treatment to your needs, a consultant will carry out a scalp analysis when you first arrive. All the centre's consultants and therapists have been trained by certified trichologists. Here's a not-so-nice picture beneathe the seemingly luscious head I have:

Previously before I gave birth, my scalp condition has always been rather good. I never had oily scalp, no excessive hair loss etc. Only occasional bouts of dandruff when I don't eat or sleep well. However, for the past month, I've been battling with THIS scenario above.

Many mothers experience all sorts of funny things to their bodies after they have given birth. Some have very severe acne, some ballooned and some like me, have terrible hair problems. Irregular sleeping hours doesn't help us too. :(

After the therapist understood my concerns, she proceeded to customise a 9-step treatment for me that lasted for 2.5 hours.

I first received a wooden comb massage designed to help boost blood and oxygen circulation. Ginger wine is then used to massage my scalp before a herbal mask, formulated from more than 20 types of herbs, including ginseng and bhringraj, is applied.

Ginger wine opens up the hair follicles and pores to prep the scalp to receive the goodness of the herbal mask. Upon application, I felt a slightly tingling sensation but it was nothing uncomfortable.

To help the scalp absorb the herbs better, I also sat through a 30-minute steam session before my hair is washed & blown dry, lemongrass essence applied to my hair ends and cooling tonic is massaged onto my scalp.

At the same time, I was given a really luxurious and relaxing head and shoulder massage before ending off with a 10-minute infra-red session to promote blood circulation to further allow the goodness of the herbs to be fully absorbed.

Sat back into the consultation room some 2.5 hours later and I was very pleased with what I see!

As compared to the horrifying image you've seen previously, you can see that almost 99% of my dandruff flakes have been successfully been removed. My hairfall is also significantly lesser these few days. Three days has passed since I went through this treatment and I'm so glad that the dandruff has not made a comeback and I can finally wake up feeling happy because I no longer need to conscientiously pick up my fallen hair stuck on my pillow. :)

A big thank you to Luxe Scalp Specialist! Without your expertise, I am most likely still be frustrated with my itchy scalp and extreme hair loss.
