A date with the husband to The Fabulous Baker Boy

Friday, July 26, 2013

I'm glad that Nian is always enthusiastic about exploring hidden places for food. From Au Chocolat to Udders to Carousel to everything else... he has never really complained about me eating too much. (Except for spending too much money on food cuz I'm always hungry hahahaa)

A couple of weeks ago, Nian pulled a "let's go find a place to chill out" idea on me while I was happily lazing around on the sofa. He wanted to go to Wimbly Lu but somehow, I didn't think Wimbly Lu deserved a re-visit so soon. We had wanted to try their Root Beer Float cake together, but I went ahead without him (oops) and tried it first. It wasn't spectacular so I didn't want to waste his time.

Instead, we decided to check out another place well known for their desserts...

The Fabulous Baker Boy!

Located directly opposite Liang Court, The Fabulous Baker Boy not only sells desserts, but also sandwiches and more filling meals. However, our objective was clear - we wanted dessert. Sugar, sugar, sugar!

The Fabulous Baker Boy (can we call it FBB for short now?) is mostly outdoors seating so thank goodness I decided to wear a sleeveless dress!

There are some air-conditioned seats, but I don't think it is very popular because the table can be quite narrow and difficult to eat comfortably.

I like how laid-back the cafe is. It was not too noisy and with the ample number of fans, I barely felt the heat at all. It was great to be sitting with a loved one, chomping down cakes and watching the world go by. It's very surreal. :)

Nian ordered the Blueberry Yoghurt Cake while I went for their popular Red Velvet Cake and both are really good. I love how the Blueberry Yoghurt Cake had this tinge of lemon taste in it. Mild, but not boring; sweet, but not over-bearing, you know?

As for their Red Velvet Cake, I find it interesting that they coated the cake with chocolate instead of the usual cream cheese frosting. The cake is dense and flavourful and I'd say it is comparable to Swirls' Red Velvet Cakes, which by the way, are my favourite Red Velvets.

All in all, I had such a splendid tea session with the other half, I can't wait to come back again to try out their other cakes.

Thank you for the date, Mr. Tan! ^-^
