Foto Friday 11

Can't believe the first month of 2013 has already zoomed by us wtf. I was still telling Nian that we were in December (cannot seem to get used to a new year after spending 12 months of 2012 lol) just two days back then suddenly... it is the first of February already.

So.. have you done anything much for January? Started on realizing your resolutions yet? :)

Nian and I continued our foodscapade in the last week of January and we ventured to Tonkatsu by Ma Maison at Mandarin Gallery.

I've always loved Japanese cuisine - sashimi would be the best treat for me, but I also love their sushi, ramen... and obviously their katsu. Who doesn't like deep fried chunks of boneless meat? :p

Because we went there in a quiet weekday noon just slightly after lunch, we got our seats very quickly and was served by a Japanese waiter who looked kinda like Masaki Aiba wtf. Nian ordered their ebi tonkatsu, while I went for their hire (pronounced as he-ray) katsu.

The ebi katsu was very delicious; filled with chunks of fresh shrimp and going with a generous serving of tartar sauce, I kinda regret that I didn't order that instead. My Hire Katsu was not bad, but I think it is pretty tough and dry - probably because pork fillet has lesser fat as compared to other parts of the pig.

Alike to Tonkichi, another of my favourite place to go for tonkatsu, Ma Maison also serves free-flow cabbages, miso soup and rice. However, I really appreciate that Ma Maison went up a notch and serves free flow brown rice too.

With the pricing slightly on a high side, (my hire katsu costs $29.80) I think I will be back again with more friends in tow, but definitely not so soon. I wanna try their Kurobuta Rosu Katsu the next time round and that will set us back about $32 already!

It wouldn't have been much of a mention if not for dining at the Secret Recipe across the border. Heh heh. That's right, we went over to JB again for some grocery shopping.

I think we're somewhat 'addicted' to going over to shop because we really save quite a bit of money based on the exchange rate. In a normal shopping trip, we will save a couple of dollars on mega pack cereals and diapers, a few cents on milk and canned food... and now, we even started buying organic vegetable from Jusco. Definitely not as expensive as organic products in Singapore! All in all, in a regular shopping trip, we can buy a whole week's worth of groceries and it will only set us back about SGD$50. It would have cost about $70 if we were to buy it from NTUC.

This time, we went a step further and bought our Chinese New Year goodies from up north as well.

2013 marks the first year of us celebrating Chinese New Year in our new place and that means we will be hosting a couple of our relatives and friends. We bought my favourite gummy candies, yu sheng and even bak kwa!

The biggest savings have to be the bak kwa, I think. We did a price check in SG and it costs about $48/600g. We bought it at RM44/600g in M'sia.

That works out to about $18. That's a whopping $30 difference wtf. I do hope my memory/math doesn't fail here because now as I'm typing, I'm beginning to think that it is a little bit too good to be true omg.

Gotta go back to haul the packet drinks and tidbits soon!

Went to H&M wanting to get some clothes for Dylan but I ended up almost snugging this Hello Kitty beanie. I know! I'm out of control already wtf. What am I supposed to buy a beanie for in such a weather?!

*perspiring as I'm typing under a fan in Speed 3*

But you cannot deny that this beanie is really cute lor, right?

Here's a cardigan we bought for Dy. I love it soooo much!

Even though I'm not very fashionable myself, I am actually trying my best to dress Dy up as much as I can with whatever (limited) resources we have lol.

I secretly hope that I can dress Dy to look like these adorbz baby models hahahahaha. *coughs* at least Dy has the cute looks to begin with so I'm not working on a blank canvas, I s'pose? #SelfPraiseIsNoPraise

Jokes aside, the poor boy has to be in cardigan and all wrapped up cuz he caught a cold and have been sick for the past week with fever, runny nose and a phlegmy cough, as mentioned in my previous post :(

Glad that he is so much better now! Back to my bouncy happy bubblegum. ^^

Baked another batch of cupcakes after the butter cake Nian and I made together to use up the extra nutella frosting. This time, I was craving for a chocolate cake cuz it has been so long since I baked anything this chocolatey, so there you have it. :)

Still perfecting my ugly icing, as usual, but if you were to compare it with the horrendous icing I did for my red velvet cakes....

You'll agree with me that I'm doing so much better now... LOL.

Did another batch with very, very remaining nutella frosting (hence the ! cup is not completely covered lol) for Nian to bring to work. Wrote the writings with strawberry jam!

Ending off this week's Foto Friday with yet another winning - $20 Seoul Garden / Breeks vouchers and a pair of GV movie passes! I wish this winning streak will never end! ^^

P.S. I'm giving away 10 sets of my favourite skincare products throughout the month of February, in conjunction to the Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day! The first 3 sets will be up for grabs tomorrow, so do keep a look out for it!
